What is Red Day? One whole day where KW shuts their doors WORLDWIDE to get in the field and volunteer for something bigger than ourselves. Last year we raised over $9,000 for Queens Together to purchase and distribute hot meals to families in severe need of aid during the pandemic. We also provided lunches to a few area hospitals to the nurses and doctors working to save lives.
This year, we are raising funds in hopes of lessening the burden placed on those still facing food insecurity in Jackson Heights. $25 donation feeds a family of 4, and all of the proceeds will go to the Jackson Heights Community Fridge via The Queensboro restaurant and will be distributed to families on Thursday, May 13th.
What is Queens Together?
Queens Together is a non-profit association of independent restaurants supporting each other in business and feeding communities during crises. Their motto is “One Borough. One Voice.”
During the COVID-19 crisis they are building a bridge that connects local restaurants with food relief efforts in their communities. The dollars raised allow restaurants to make real money, pay their workers, fuel the local economy and most importantly do what restaurants do best: care for others with food. That's because the meals and groceries they fund, prepared by these local chefs, go to neighbors facing food and economic insecurity. The work benefits the full circle of the community: from food businesses to those in need to those who donate. This mission will continue beyond COVID-19 and become a tool for future needs and projects.
